Reef Cloverson is also a journal of my development as a marine scientist—from designing experiments and learning new methods to interpreting results, finding problems, and deciding what comes next.
The work is developing through two main lanes:
Environmental Chemistry
This lane focuses on what reef-water measurements can tell us about the conditions experienced by corals. It includes ICP analysis, trace elements, nutrient chemistry, long-term aquarium records, and questions surrounding the difference between an element being present and being biologically available.
eDNA and Microbiomes
This lane follows my work with environmental DNA, biological sampling, DNA extraction, PCR, community analysis, and microbiome-focused questions. Current and developing projects include eDNA recovered from marine organisms and the use of molecular methods to better understand interactions within aquatic systems.
Not every entry will be a finished study. The Research Journal will include project ideas, methods, experimental updates, unexpected results, interpretations, and changes in direction. The point is to document the actual process of becoming a better scientist—not only the polished result.
